GLOSSARY

Property release

A Property Release form is needed to prove that permission from property, intellectual property or a building present in a photo, has been gained before it is published.

For photos available from Shoot Bank we usually have not contacted the property in question to obtain permission therefore we will sell the photo with an editorial license without a property release. However, this does not mean the the property release is unobtainable - often a quick email to the property in question will get you the permission needed to use the photo. We have had first hand experience in obtaining such permission from property such as The Houses of Parliament, The London Eye, St Paul's and Transport for London.

'Property' include any form of intellectual or architectural property:
a) Buildings
b) Brands
c) Logos
d) Art

Some publications DO print photos when a building is recognizable without a property release if:
a) The photo contains a group of buildings, for example a city skyline.
b) The building is not the main focus of the photo.
c.) The building is not recognisable.
It is always the safer option to contact the property in question.
